Terms of Use
Last updated: September 9, 2026
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
These Terms of Use ("terms") are an agreement between you and the operator of Mapogo ("we", "us"). They cover the Mapogo iOS app, including any home screen widgets and the optional Mapogo Pro subscription, and the website at mapogo.app. By installing or using the app, subscribing to Pro, or using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app or the site.
Our Privacy Policy explains what information the app and site handle. It is a separate document and is not changed by these terms.
2. The app licence and Apple's role
The app is licensed, not sold, to you under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"). The Standard EULA gives you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store usage rules. Where these terms and the Standard EULA say different things about the licence itself, the Standard EULA applies.
This agreement is between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it, and is not responsible for addressing any claim about it, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, or consumer protection claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a United States government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not on any United States government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
3. Your account
Mapogo offers Sign in with Apple to set up your account, and you may also use the app without one. Your content is scoped to the Apple account you signed in with, so signing in with a different Apple ID opens a separate journal. You are responsible for keeping your device and Apple account secure. You must be at least 13 years old to use Mapogo, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live to subscribe to Pro.
4. Your content
Everything you create in Mapogo, including trips, journal entries, itineraries, packing lists, photos, and the countries, regions, and cities you mark, is yours. Mapogo stores it on your device and does not send it to us, so you do not grant us any rights in it and we cannot see it. Because we hold no copy, you are responsible for backing it up: deleting the app deletes its data, and your iPhone backup is what protects your journal.
You are responsible for what you put in your journal and for any content you choose to share from it, for example a friend invite link or a shared image. Only add photos and text you have the right to use.
5. Mapogo Pro
Mapogo Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription that unlocks unlimited region and city tracking, the collectible trackers, and the extra map styles and colours. It is offered as a monthly or a yearly plan. The price is shown in the app and on the App Store before you subscribe, in your local currency, and may include tax.
Free trial. New subscribers get a 7-day free trial. When the trial ends your subscription starts and Apple charges your App Store account, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. A trial is available once per Apple account.
Renewal and cancellation. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the then-current price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. You can cancel, switch between monthly and yearly, or see your next billing date in the iOS Settings app, under your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the renewal and you keep Pro until the end of the period you already paid for.
Billing and refunds. Pro is sold and billed entirely by Apple through your App Store account under Apple's media services terms. We never receive your payment details. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us, at reportaproblem.apple.com, and we cannot issue them ourselves.
If your subscription lapses. Nothing you saved is deleted. Regions, cities, and tracker items you already marked stay in your data, and Pro-only map styles revert to a free one. If you subscribe again, everything is where you left it.
Changes to Pro. We may change what Pro includes or its price. A price change applies from your next renewal, and Apple will tell you about it in advance as its rules require; you can cancel before it takes effect. If we ever discontinue Pro, you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
6. Country guides and travel information
Mapogo's country guides bring together information such as visa rules, government travel advisories, weather and climate, currency and exchange rates, tap water safety, local emergency numbers, and vaccine guidance. Each fact names its source and the date it was gathered, and the guides are bundled with the app so they open without a signal.
This information is provided for general reference only. It is not legal, immigration, medical, financial, or safety advice, and it is not an official source. Rules and conditions change, sometimes without notice, and a guide may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong for your particular passport, purpose of travel, or health situation. Before you rely on anything in a guide, check it against the official source it cites, such as the destination's government, your own government's travel advice, your airline, and a medical professional. Exchange rates are indicative and are not a quote. Emergency numbers are shown for reference and are not a substitute for confirming the number locally. You use the guides at your own risk, and we are not responsible for any loss that results from acting on them.
7. Third-party services and links
The map is powered by the Mapbox Maps SDK and is subject to the Mapbox Terms of Service; map data is provided by Mapbox and OpenStreetMap contributors. Live weather on a country guide comes from Apple Weather. Exchange rates come from a public rate feed through our own mapogo.app endpoint.
Guides and ready-made trips may link to other companies' websites and apps, such as visa, eSIM, travel insurance, and booking services. Those services are provided by third parties under their own terms and privacy policies, we do not control them, and a link is not an endorsement. Some of these links may be partner links, meaning we could earn a commission if you buy something after following them, at no extra cost to you. Any purchase you make from a third party is between you and that third party.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the app or site, or reverse engineer or attempt to extract its source code, except to the extent the law or an open source licence expressly permits;
- use automated means to scrape the site or to send requests to mapogo.app endpoints other than through normal use of the app or site;
- interfere with the app, the site, or the systems that serve them, or bypass any security or subscription control;
- use the app or site for anything unlawful, or to share content you do not have the right to share.
9. Intellectual property and third-party content
The Mapogo name, logo, design, and software are ours and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. These terms do not give you any right to use them beyond using the app and site as intended.
Mapogo includes content from others, used under their licences: map data from Mapbox and OpenStreetMap contributors; country and region boundaries from Natural Earth, which is in the public domain; city data from GeoNames; flag images from Flagpedia and Wikimedia Commons; the cover photos on ready-made trips from Wikimedia Commons, used under Creative Commons Attribution and Attribution-ShareAlike licences and credited where they appear in the app; and public data from sources such as the CDC, UNESCO, and government travel advisory services, each cited on the guide that uses it. Those licences, not these terms, govern your reuse of that content.
10. The website and the launch waitlist
The mapogo.app website is provided for information about the app. If you join the launch waitlist, you agree that we may email you when Mapogo launches and with occasional launch-related updates, and you can ask to be removed at any time by emailing [email protected]. How that email address is stored is described in the Privacy Policy.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
The app and site are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties about them, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement, and we do not promise that they will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any information in them, including the country guides, is complete or current. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be excluded, so some of this section may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or travel costs, arising from your use of the app or site or from your reliance on information in them, even if we were told such loss was possible. Our total liability to you for all claims arising from the app or site is limited to the amount you paid us for Mapogo Pro in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including under consumer protection laws that apply where you live.
13. Ending your use
You can stop using Mapogo at any time by deleting the app; that removes its data from your device. A Pro subscription is cancelled separately, as described in section 5. We may suspend or end your access to the site or to Pro if you materially breach these terms. Sections 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, and 15 survive the end of this agreement.
14. Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date, and material changes will be noted in the app's release notes. Continuing to use the app or site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Canada and of the province in which Mapogo is operated, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you live somewhere whose consumer protection law gives you rights that cannot be waived, nothing in these terms takes them away. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
16. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent to [email protected]. For help with the app, see Support; for privacy requests, write to [email protected].
